ENDING GENDER-BASED
VIOLENCE
Every woman, girl, and gender-diverse person deserves to feel safe. But every two days in Canada, a woman
or girl is killed by violence. Nearly 30% of women and girls in Canada aged 15 or older have experienced
sexual assault.
Your generosity enables programs that support survivors of gender-based violence to get the services they
need to rebuild their lives: counselling, sexual violence support, help to find safe housing, and support for
children who’ve witnessed violence.
Together, we’re also building the capacity for gender-based violence organizations to offer inclusive and
culturally-grounded supports where they’re needed most.
Intersectional Practices for the
Inclusion of People Living at the
Crossroads of Oppression
La Débrouille, Rimouski, Québec
“When 2SLGBTQIA+ people turn to women’s
shelters, sexual assault centres, and other
services, they may face discrimination and
rejection. Without refuge or support, they face
increased risk of homelessness and violence. As a
member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, I want to
help break this cycle.”
– Beck G. LaFlamme, Educational outreach and
2SLGBTQ+ inclusion coordinator, La Débrouille
Your support has enabled La Débrouille to launch
peer-support groups for 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors of
intimate partner violence and create resources to
train other gender-based violence organizations to
provide safer and more inclusive services.

Landmark Gift from THE SLAIGHT FAMILY FOUNDATION to Address
Gender-Based Violence and Disability
Women living with disabilities face high risk of gender-based violence, and many challenges accessing
supports. Thanks to an incredible $1 million donation from The Slaight Family Foundation in December
2024, we are working in partnership with DAWN Canada to launch The Root Change Initiative. It will
address gender-based violence and disability by funding grassroots programs, building the capacity of local
organizations, sharing tools and knowledge, supporting critical research, and advocating for inclusive, traumainformed solutions to ensure survivors receive the support they need.
